About Us

Since 1976, R.D. Landstra has been selling and installing laboratory casework and fume hoods in Michigan.
By focusing our business strictly on laboratories for the industrial and university markets we are able to
provide a very high level of service. This kind of service, combined with supplying quality products, has
led to repeat sales with many of our customers.

We build laboratories using Kewaunee Scientific casework and fume hoods (www.kewaunee.com), as well
as a variety of components from other world class manufacturers. We are proud that our vendor partners
are recognized throughout the laboratory industry for innovation, quality and durability. These vendor
partners include such names as Durcon, Trespa, Water Saver and many others.

We work to complete every project on time at the highest standards. We believe that the repeat business,
upon which we base our success, is due to the performance of our people in each endeavor, large and small.

Services

Budgeting

We can provide varying levels of budget information for any laboratory project. For very conceptual projects,
lineal foot or square foot numbers can be determined. The budget can then be revised as the design evolves.
For labs where the design has been established, budgets can be prepared for the project by room or area.
We continually update our budget database to ensure that we provide accurate, complete, and
competitive budgets.

Design

We offer a full line of design services and are available to work with architects, engineers and owners to
produce design documents for laboratories. Our specialized laboratory furniture design software allows us
to respond quickly and accurately to all requests for design services. In addition to traditional
two-dimensional (2D) layouts, we can also provide 3D models which can be particularly useful in the
conceptual design phase of a project.

On any project we conduct planning sessions with the owner to:

  • Establish layout based on traffic patterns, lab function and equipment
  • Assess storage requirements
  • Recommend products best suited for the lab???s technical and budget requirements
  • Locate fume hoods for safest operation
  • Locate safety equipment -- eyewashes and emergency showers
  • Assess ADA requirements

Once these project details have been agreed upon, we develop plans, elevations, details and an estimate
to submit for owner review.

Scheduling

One of the most important aspects of a project is the integration of all of the construction activities
into a schedule which expedites progress. We identify major critical operations, time periods, and
installation deadlines in order to prepare the most accurate schedule possible. We also develop a
project schedule which coordinates our activities with those of other trades, to meet the scheduling
objectives of the owner and the general contractor.

Our project management staff continually monitors the following information as it relates to the status
of a project:

  • Shop drawing and submittal dates
  • Target release dates for fabrication
  • Delivery dates
  • Installation start dates
  • Manpower requirements
  • Critical item tracking

On Site Project Management

As projects require, we will provide on-site, full time project management services. Our project
management staff has the ability to control all aspects of the work. That staff is selected for their
specific experience and knowledge to meet project requirements. We know that the key to performance
on a project lies in understanding it in detail, and working closely with the client.

Installation

Our installers are responsible for transforming an array of components into a beautiful and functional
laboratory. We have defined and refined our quality standards over the past 30+ years to ensure that
you get the most efficient and accurate installation possible.

Our installation crews are responsible for initiating our own punch list before the owner, architect, or
contractor ever generate their own. As a result, post installation warranty issues are minimal. Our team
of skilled craftsmen possess extensive experience working with laboratory casework and fume hoods.

Project Closeout, Warranty and Training

At the completion of a project, we deliver all guarantees, warranties, and operation/maintenance manuals
to the maintenance staff. We ensure that all areas and materials are inspected and in good condition.
If the project has fume hoods, we have the capability to test hood performance, calibrate airflow monitors
and conduct any necessary user training.

We perform all warranty work and remain available to our clients should continued service be required
after warranty obligations are met.
